Minutes from February 17, 2011 Meeting
ACT – Advancing the Community Of Tahoka, Texas
First United Methodist Church – Tahoka, Texas
6:10 pm Quorum Present: Vernon Baker, Roger Locke, Frances Truehart, Dee Dee Pridmore, Julia Allen,
Gloria DeLeon
Meeting was called to order and Vernon led the Invocation. Minutes were unanimously approved as
presented.
Financial report showed a balance of $30,542.82
The first item of discussion was the Signage on the highway into Tahoka. Frances reported that she will
have a landscape architect draw up some plans using the existing brickwork that we can look at by our next meeting. The plans will then be taken to City Council for approval before being presented to Txdot. Txdot suggested we wait until the Court House Renovation project was begun before we did anything with the south triangle as that will become city property at that time. Liz Tew and Audrea Ausberne brought some plans for a community garden project. This project would benefit the Senior Citizens Center, the Food Pantry as well as families in need. Any citizen would be welcome to work in the garden and harvest according to the work they put in. They are currently trying to obtain property from the Church of Christ. They will then need to acquire fencing and access to water. This project will be put on the agenda for further discussion next meeting.
Julia brought some sample ground cover as well as some water feature and seating ideas for the Mini Park project. It was agreed that we would want a solid surface that would be less destructible. The current mind set is that we would do away with the tennis courts, add a basketball court and walking path, update the playground area etc. A more comprehensive plan will be drawn out by a landscape architect and we should be able to view preliminary drawings next meeting.
We will look at doing a feasibility study on the 380/87 signs for next meeting
The next meeting was set for Thursday March 10, 2011 at 5:15pm at the First United Methodist Church.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:45.
