Minutes from July 14, 2011 Meeting
ACT – Advancing the Community Of Tahoka, Texas
First United Methodist Church – Tahoka, Texas
5:20 pm Quorum Present: Vernon Baker, Gloria DeLeon, Frances Truehart, Dee Dee Pridmore, Roger
Locke and Shannon Lawson.
Meeting was called to order and Vernon led the Invocation. The minutes were unanimously approved after a correction on spelling.
Shannon Lawson was welcomed as our new board member replacing Roosevelt Moore.
Financial report showed a balance of $42,585.18
It was discussed that we need to have a “Shop Local” project in which we would work in conjunction with
other entities to encourage people to look to Tahoka first when needing anything. Frances moved and
Gloria 2nd with all agreeing that a shop local project would be looked at and headed up by Shannon
Lawson.
We discussed the Welcome Sign project and discussed that we need to first ‘Brand’ the city so that all
projects have the same look. Vernon moved that we hire a marketing company to help us brand and
develop a marketing plan for our city, he suggested Skeens at Indigo Spin and will look into pricing.
DeeDee seconded his motion with all present approving. Frances will hold off on the signage until a brand can be decided on.
We discussed the Mini Park – Phase 2 (construction).John Baker had emailed asking if we wanted concrete under the rubber matting at the play area. He stated it would add to the life of the matting. We had some questions as to how much it is projected to add to the life of the matting and we had concerns about drainage. Mr Baker and Julia were both unable to attend the meeting but should be able to answer these questions at the next meeting. Vernon moved that we approve $28,000.00 for phase 2 of this project with Julia having the authority to approve items up to this amount, Frances seconded and all present agreed.
The swimming pool project was discussed and although progress is not as we had wished, work is
continuing to complete that project. Many other maintenance issues have come up at the pool and a long
range plan needs to be looked at with the ACT board possibly issuing some future funds to help on that
project.
The next meeting was set for Monday August 1, 2011 at 5:15pm at the First United Methodist Church.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:40.
