Minutes from May 2, 2013 Meeting
ACT – Advancing the Community
Of Tahoka, TexasFirst United Methodist Church – Tahoka, Texas
5:15 pm Quorum Present: Dee Dee Pridmore, Vernon Baker, Julia Allen, Roger Lock, Shannon Lawson and Frances Truehart.
Meeting was called to order and Dee Dee led the invocation. The minutes were unanimously approved as presented.
Financial report showed a balance of $71,400.38.
New members were discussed to fill the vacancies left by Gloria DeLeon and Vernon Baker. The following names were mentioned: Carmen Chapa, Daniel Garvin, Stace Holland, Brady Askew, Ty Askew, Lane Tekell, Barry Pittman, Sarah Garcia, Yolanda Aleman, Tim Pledger, Brenda Dotson, Shi Dotson, Rebecca Filley, Kevin Larpenter, Kellie Craig, Barbara Morton, Rosa Linda Gutierrez, Juannel Jones, Tilda Carrasco, Virginia Zavalaand Jay Dee House. After discussion it was unanimously decided to present Carmen Chapa and Daniel Garvin as candidates for the board to the City Council.
The letters at the North entrance to Tahoka should be installed the week of May 13th. Frances will be in touch with Sanco to let them know what finish we decided on for the letters. We discussed the 87/380 corner as well. Greg Henley is meeting with Lyntegar’s architect and will let us know what they have decided.
The Mini Park was discussed. Julia will contacted the gentlemen from Playgrounds Etc. and see why they have not been back to pick up their mess left in City Hall when they built the benches and tables. Mitch Raindl should be pouring the concrete for the bench installs next week. The City is having the park surveyed before we move forward with revamping the gazebo. Julia has gotten a bid from Derek Stevens to maintain the park for a fee of $600.00 per month. Julia will pursue additional bids.
Roger will be taking on the swimming pool project and will check with the city about water fountains and hand washing sink in the concession stand. Post Plumbing was discussed as they had recently done some work for FUMC with good results.
Vernon will gave those phone numbers to Roger so he could contact them.
The Mural Park has been primed and painted. Next we will remove the benches and have them rebuilt and painted. DeeDee will be seeking bids for a sprinkler system.
Vernon discussed the media center at the Life Enrichment Center. He was supposed to get a bid by today but had not heard as of meeting time.
Shannon discussed her brochure ideas and also discussed getting the ACT board a facebook page or getting access to the City’s page so we can keep the citizens updated on our progress. Shannon will also look into putting a link to the ACT board on the City’s web page.
The next meeting was not discussed but in keeping with the norm has been set for 6-6-13 at 5:15 at the First United Methodist Church.
